Our Story

"Congratulations"  | "10 years later"  | "A Baby after…"  | "You’ve always dreamt of it"  | "Finally…"  | "Oh wow, thank God you're finally doing this"  | "I've always wanted to order your food"

These are some of the phrases I heard from family and friends when I finally informed them that I was starting a food business. Although I have always enjoyed cooking good food and often been referred to as a Foodie, I never thought there was a need for my skill.

In 2013, I became an 'Accidental Chef'. I had just started my University degree with the aim of graduating and going into the Corporate world when I discovered my passion for cooking. I lived in a house of five people and often found myself cooking meals almost every day to feed them. I had friends visit frequently pretending to check up on me but really with the intention of eating my food. Even though i could read through their intentions, it was always a delight to serve them. These were truly my first customers.

Although there were many suggestions to open a restaurant, my dream was to work in the Corporate world - high heels and skirt suits. I graduated from University and went into the world of work. I worked in the financial services sector for 4 years and although I found it rewarding, I never got the same level of satisfaction as I did with cooking.

I got married in 2018 and became pregnant shortly afterwards. Although I had the skill, I quickly realised I did not have the strength to cook my favourite Nigerian dishes. Although my husband did what he could (bless him), I couldn’t trust him to make the type of dishes I wanted. I found it difficult to find places that served authentic Nigerian food near me and the one I eventually found did not deliver the meal. These experiences highlighted the need for a 'Cook on call' when I needed it most.

With the baby now 6 months old and the potential impact of the lock-down on access to good cuisine, I realised there wasn’t a better time to launch my business and CookOnCall was born. This is my way of making people feel content from the taste of authentic Nigerian food.
